Counselor Resources - Class of 2020
The Class of 2020 TN Promise application opens for completion on August 1, 2019 at www.tnpromise.gov and students have until November 1, 2019 to complete the scholarship application in order to become eligible. After the TN Promise application deadline, tnAchieves will begin communicating with all applicants. It is important that students provide a correct, working email address and phone number when applying for TN Promise. Students must also provide parent/guardian contact information. The 2020-2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will open on October 1, 2019 and is completed based off of student and parent(s)/guardian(s) 2018 tax information. The TN Promise 2020-2021 FAFSA filing deadline will be February 1, 2020.
We are excited to begin working with your Class of 2020 students! As a counselor, please feel free to use our website as a resource for materials, information, and guidance. Please encourage your students to become familiar with the TN Promise eligibility requirements, tnAchieves program and policies. Please also encourage your students to check their emails regularly.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the main financial aid application that students complete to determine if they qualify for any state/federal scholarships or grants. The FAFSA can be completed online at www.fafsa.gov. Prior to FAFSA completion, students and parents/legal guardians will be required to create an FSA ID online at www.fsaid.ed.gov. The student and parent/legal guardian FSA IDs are used to access and sign the student’s FAFSA.
TN FAFSA Frenzy is the State of Tennessee’s FAFSA completion initiative designed to provide educators and students with resources to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and help students take an important step in the college-going process. The TN FAFSA Frenzy initiative was created in response to the new FAFSA timeline, which moves the FAFSA filing window to October 1, 2019 through February 1, 2020 for students pursuing TN Promise. The new timeline allows students and families to use tax information from 2018 as determined by the federal government (referred to as “prior-prior year”).
The initiative is also designed to bring together professional resources and best practices from across the state and provide a one-stop shop for free resources for your financial aid events to help increase your institution's FAFSA filing rate. Please click here for the FAFSA Frenzy Counselor Tool-Kit, which further explains the initiative and provides resources and ideas for FAFSA Frenzy events.
