TN Promise
Deadlines & Milestones

File the 2027-2028 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at FAFSA.gov. Please click here to learn more about this requirement!
Keep in mind, this is a mandatory scholarship requirement. Failure to complete this requirement will result in the loss of TN Promise scholarship eligibility. Once eligibility is lost, it cannot be regained at a later date.

Complete and submit at least 16 hours of community service for the 2027-2028 academic year. Please click here to learn more and submit your hours!

If you are attending a community college or 4-year institution, you are required to maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA at the end of each academic year to remain eligible for TN Promise. An academic year is defined as the fall term, spring term and summer term in this order.
If you are attending a Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT), you are required to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) which is checked at the end of each trimester.

A student may request a medical or personal leave of absence from timely enrollment in the initial semester, full-time attendance or continuous enrollment at an eligible post-secondary institution as long as all other applicable eligibility criteria are met.
In order to complete an appeal prior to initial enrollment, a student must click here for instructions on submitting an appeal.
In order to request a leave of absence after initial enrollment, a student must complete the appeal process as specified by his/her college. In the event an institution denies a student's request for a medical or personal leave of absence, the student may appeal the decision in accordance with the rules found at the previously mentioned link.

If you need to change the college listed in your THEC Student Portal or on your FAFSA, you will need to complete the steps outlined below. Having the correct institution listed on your FAFSA and your THEC Student Portal will ensure that your financial aid is sent to the correct college.

Your college may require you to complete financial aid verification before awarding your scholarships and financial aid. This process is completed through the financial aid office and often requires that you provide documentation to the college.
We encourage you to connect with your college's financial aid office and keep an eye on your college account for more information regarding verification.
